Plain answers to common questions.

How long does a paint job take?

It depends on the size of the job and how much prep it needs. A single room often takes a day or two, while the outside of a house can take a week or more, depending on the weather.

Do I need to move the furniture?

Small items and things on the walls are usually put away first, and larger furniture is moved to the middle of the room and covered. Ask when you call and we will tell you what to do before work starts.

What prep happens before painting?

Surfaces are cleaned, loose or peeling paint is scraped and sanded, holes and cracks are patched, and floors and furniture are covered. Good prep helps the new paint last.

Which paint finish should I choose?

Flat and matte hide small flaws and suit ceilings and bedrooms. Eggshell and satin wipe clean more easily, so they suit living rooms and hallways. Semi-gloss stands up to moisture and suits trim, doors, kitchens and bathrooms.

What about lead paint in older homes?

Homes built before 1978 may have lead paint, and sanding or scraping it can spread harmful dust. If your home is older, mention it when you call, so the old paint can be checked before any work starts.

How do I choose colors?

Look at samples on your own walls, in daylight and in the evening, since colors change with the light. A large swatch or two helps you picture the whole room. We can go over the options with you.

How long does exterior paint last?

It depends on the surface, the weather and the prep. A good paint job on wood siding often lasts several years, while stained decks and fences need a fresh coat more often. Peeling, fading or chalky paint means it is time.
