Plain answers to common questions.
Which fence material should I choose?
Wood looks natural and can be painted or stained. Vinyl needs little upkeep. Aluminum is light and neat. Chain link is plain and sturdy. We can go over each one for your yard.
Do I need a permit for a fence?
Many towns ask for one, and some limit how tall a fence can be. Check with your town’s building department before work starts. We can tell you what to ask.
Where does my property line run?
Check your property survey before building near a boundary. If you don’t have one, ask your town or have a survey made, so the fence goes on your side.
How long does a fence last?
It depends on the material, the weather and the soil. Wood needs a fresh coat of stain or paint every few years, while vinyl and aluminum need little more than a wash.
Can a leaning fence be fixed?
Often yes. A leaning section usually means a loose or rotted post. A technician can look at it and tell you whether to reset the post or replace the section.
Can I keep the old fence?
Sometimes the good sections can stay and only the damaged ones are replaced. Show us the fence and we will tell you what is worth keeping.
What about utilities underground?
Digging for posts means checking for buried lines first. Call 811 a few days before any digging, and the lines will be marked.
